Our Agents Fee - Purchase to Order Vehicles direct from JDM Auctions
Choose your Agent before you choose your Car
Like every exporter in Japan, Brave Auto International charges an agents fee which is also known as a buyers fee.
The agents fee is added to the the vehicle's sale price known as "car cost". The car cost is the price you see the vehicle sell for on the auction system/s. When you add the agents fee to the sale price of the vehicle you now have what is known as the "FOB" price. Until recent times, FOB meant the final price, in other words this is the total amount you pay to your agent in Japan and it includes all costs associated with getting the vehicle onto the ship.
Until recent times, most agents in Japan had a set agents fee normally around 100,000yen and it included everything. This made choosing vehicles to bid on and the amount you requested your agent to bid up to very simple for you the buyer. But today, to make agents look competitive (cheaper than another agent) they advertise cheap agents fee, some as low as 50,000yen. However, to make the difference up they then have what is known as "add on fees" which in many cases works out to a lot more than what a traditional agent's fee is. Besides costing you more this is also very confusing for the customer when he/she is trying to workout an amount to advise their agent to bid up to at auction for them.
Below is a comparison between our set agents fee and other agents.

As you can see, with Brave's set agents fee there are no hidden charges.
No matter whether the vehicle costs 100,000yen at auction or 10,000,000yen, our agents fee remains set at 100,000yen.
Consumption Tax (10%) - many agents charge you this government tax on the car cost as all agents in Japan are automatically charged this by the auction house. For example, if the car sells for 900,000yen at auction the consumption tax would be 90,000yen, resulting in the agent paying the auction (not including auction fees) 990,000yen for your vehicle. The higher the vehicles sells for at auction the more the consumption tax amount is.
However, here at Brave Auto International, we do not charge our customers the 8% consumption tax that we are charged by the auction house. You might ask yourself "why not" when other agents do. The simple answer to this is that after we have exported your vehicle we claim back from the government the 8% tax that we were originally charged by the auction. Many agents charge you this tax, claim it back and pocket it and you are none the wiser until you read this.
Recycle Fee (5,000 - 18,000yen per vehicle) - many agents will charge you a "recycle fee" which as the consumption tax above, we are automatically charged this government fee by the auction. The recycle fee will vary between 5,000 to 18,000yen depending on the make & model of vehicle. The recycle fee amount is always displayed on the auction sheet.
However, here at Brave Auto International, we do not charge our customers the recycle fee that we are originally charged by the auction. Once again, you might ask yourself "why not" when other agents do. As with the consumption tax, we as an exporter claim this fee back from the government once your vehicle has been exported from Japan.
Radiation Check Prior to Export - due to the recent disasters of 2011 here in Japan, many people importing vehicles are concerned about radiation affected vehicles. Unfortunately, some agents have seen this as an opportunity to profit from by charging their customers a fee for checking radiation. Here at Brave Auto International, we offer this service for free with Ro/Ro vehicles. Once again, you may ask yourself how can we do it for free when others charge. The simple answer is, the shipping lines are automatically checking the radiation levels of vehicle prior to loading and it is "free".
Local Inland Transport & Secure Long Term Storage - all vehicles purchased by Brave Auto International are transported directly from the auction/s to our office/yard just outside of Nagoya. We therefore do not store our stock or our customers vehicles at the port storage yards. As space/real estate in Japan is a premium, many agents do not have storage facilities therefore vehicles brought for customers go directly from the auction/s to the port storage facilities. Some agents will store customers vehicles at storage facilities at the port/s without their customers being aware of this. These compounds are OK if you are not too worried about your vehicle. The security is very relaxed and there are people coming and going all day dropping vehicles off. It is also human nature to wonder around while you are there looking at the other vehicles held there. The common joke in this industry is that if you want a part, you obtain it from the port storage yards. Normally, the agent will receive 30 days free storage and if the vehicle is not exported after the free days the agent is charged per day. One of the easiest ways to tell if an agent is storing vehicles at the port is that they will offer storage but at a fee per month, the figure they are charged by the shipping line. We have also known and witnessed agents who have stored vehicles near their offices down public side streets, public car parks etc.
No doubt you have heard all the stories of vehicles arriving in your country where certain parts have gone missing or the vehicle has been damaged between Japan and you picking your vehicle up from your local port. Many people blame the workers on the vessels for the theft or damage but the reality of it is most of this damage occurs at the port storage yards. Here at Brave Auto International, we are based just outside of Nagoya where land is not as expensive, because of this we own our premises which includes storage facilities for over 400 motor vehicles. Our storage yard by our office is security fenced including electric fencing and is also video monitored. Only employees of Brave Auto International can have access and all vehicles that are ready for export are brought out of our compound by us. The security we have in place is due to the fact that we also deal in high end exotic vehicles for both export and local customers.
